BOOK YOUR TOUR IN MARCH AND GET 15% OFF (OFFER VALID ON TOURS FROM MARCH – DECEMBER 2023)
Picture yourself driving a snowmobile across the surface of Iceland’s second-largest glacier, Langjökull, and venturing down the largest man-made ice tunnel in the world!
That’s just what you’ll do on this truly amazing adventure. With expert guidance from start to finish, you’ll first snowmobile atop the snowy expanse of an Icelandic glacier before exploring Into the Glacier’s man-made tunnel into the blue heart of Langjökull for a one-of-a-kind experience. It’s a fantastic adventure that won’t soon be forgotten.
Anyone 18 years or older with a driver’s license can take part in this once-in-a-lifetime adventure and an experienced guide will lead the tour and also teach the basics of operating a snowmobile.
If you travel from Reykjavik you will reach Húsafell after about two hours. Here you can grab a bite, use the restroom, and stretch your legs. After a short break, continue driving towards Langjökull Glacier Klaki Basecamp (“the long glacier”), the second-largest glacier in Iceland, where our snowmobile drive adventure takes place.
Once we arrive at our basecamp, the guide will introduce you to all the equipment you’ll use. You don’t need any prior snowmobiling experience. You’ll need a driver’s license if you intend on driving the snowmobile. The guide will show you how to operate the snowmobile. After a short safety briefing, you’ll be ready to roll!
Snowmobiling is a thrilling experience. You’ll drive on the glowing white snow that endlessly stretches out in front of you. Langjokull Glacier is ever-changing, with deep moulins, craggy crevasses, and mesmerizing ice falls that shape the landscape. You’ll spend around 40 minutes riding across the top of the ice cap before we explore the heart of the glacier.
Langjökull is Iceland’s second-largest glacier. Despite its size, not many rivers directly originate from there. The glacier is shrinking quite fast and covers 2 volcanic systems. Volcanically the region is relatively quiet.
Please note that Langjökull Glacier Klaki Basecamp is only accessible by 4×4 vehicles. If you do not have access to 4×4 vehicles please book the tour from Húsafell.
The price of the tour is for one person when sharing a snowmobile between two people. If you travel solo or if there’s an odd number of travelers, you must book a solo snowmobile for an additional fee.
If you’re traveling solo but don’t have a valid driving license, you can book a guide to operate the snowmobile for an additional cost.
Please note that a valid drivers license is required to operate a snowmobile.
Standard price includes a snowmobile ride sharing a two-person snowmobile. If you are solo traveller / rider you must upgrade before the tour to a solo snowmobile.
Dress according to the weather. Please wear/bring warm, comfortable clothing and waterproof outer layer, sturdy hiking boots, gloves and wool/fleece hat. Note jeans and sneakers are not recommended, good sturdy shoes are vital. Lunch and snacks can be bought during tour but are not included.
